STYLE ADVICE: Classic in the Cold

One semester down, seven more to go. My first semester of college sadly came to end mid-December and winter break began. I travelled back to Saint Louis, my hometown, to spend the month with family and friends. Fayetteville is full of art-loving and interesting people. So, during my break I decided to explore different areas of my city to continue to be inspired like I am back at school.

One sunny and warm day this past December I headed to the Delmar Loop. The “Loop,” as many St. Louisans call it, is a culture-rich area, full of delicious restaurants, art stores, and niche boutiques. As I walked down Delmar Blvd. to go to my favorite coffee shop, I came across an outfit too perfect to not photograph.

Our Fashionista, pictured above, was effortlessly chic in a monochromatic ensemble. She wore a long-line black coat (similar here and here), black skinny jeans, and black ankle boots. These three items are all classic, staple pieces every Fashionista should have in her closet. They will never go out of style and can be dressed up or down! For on-the-go, she has on a brown leather backpack hanging off one shoulder, perfect for walking around the city or running errands. Backpacks have been everywhere this season, from street style, to blogger posts, to the runways of Versace and Michael Kors.

This outfit suits the warmer winter days many people have been experiencing. For the colder days to come, layer a chunky scarf and sweater under the coat to add warmth. If you want to be more trendy, wear a shearling coat or a quilted puffer jacket–both featured on various designer runways this season. Either way, this is a shining example of how to brave the cold like a true Fashionista!
