STYLE ADVICE: Changing of the Seasons

Here in Rome it’s still fairly chilly and the trees are bare, but spring is slowly starting to tease us with increasingly warm and sunny afternoons. The prospect of the city in bloom dances in our imaginations as we bound down the bare streets, only to be betrayed by the bite of cold air once the sun goes down. With the weather in limbo, it’s important to dress like it was impossible to discern which weight of clothing would be appropriate for the seasons that change as suddenly as our minds. This Fashionista embraced the hopes for a new dawn of spring while still clutching onto sweater weather fervently; she crafted the perfect balance of indecisive weather choices.

Her ensemble, incorporating a mix of colors and textures, is held together with a chic black base layer. The floral top adds a cute preview of the upcoming season, but the flowers set against the black shirt reminds everyone that spring pastels are not here until spring itself agrees to stay. A soft, oversize knit marigold sweater keeps her nice and toasty while black suede heeled booties polish off the look.

What I loved most about her look was the way all of the textures and colors came together. Up close, the marigold, pale green, and berry lipstick form a muted jewel tone color palette that really complement each other and the flowers on her shirt. The texture on her gold earrings adds even another element. It’s really all in the details here; it’s quite a beautiful mix of colors and textures, each part being so different from the other yet put together in such a cohesive way. Unexpected yet beautiful, just like the first blooms of spring.
