From John Paul Gaultier to Christopher Kane, grunge is taking over all of the latest runways. The '90s trend may seem like something that should be left in the past, but from the runway to the streets grunge is being brought back in a new chic and wearable way.
In my mind, the key to creating a grunge look is all about keeping it balanced. The hard core look we often associate with grunge is not what Fashionistas out there should be aiming for. Instead, everyone should aim for looks that embody grunge mixed with chic or grunge with a hint of gloss, like these high-style designers have perfected.
This Fashionista created a casual grunge look that totally embodies the new wave of punky rock star style we are seeing flood the runways. For starters, her overall look is dark, which is pretty much a necessity when it comes to creating a grunge-inspired look. Her simple black knit sweater is a good basic, and when paired with her throwback acid-washed skinny jeans the look is the perfect mix between chic and carefree-cool. Her big black leather bag is slouchy and emits a grungy aura while complementing the ultimate grunge accessory she is wearing — her Dr. Martens boots. Dr. Martens were all the rage back in the day, and as of recently they have been making a killer comeback when it comes to street style. These simple black leather boots are an awesome pair of shoes that are classic but so fashionable right now, and I just can’t get enough of them. Her long, simple locks, a la Christopher Kane, are sleek and look great with her simple grunge-inspired outfit.
