Elegance is in the details. This Fashionista proves that all it takes is a few key accessories to personalize a tried-and-true look that's perfect for going to class or meeting a friend for coffee.
Name: Casey Liston
Major: Health Sciences
Year: Freshman
CollegeFashionista: What are you wearing?
Casey Liston: My tank top, boots and cardigan are all from Target, my jeans are from Gap, my bracelet is from Forever 21 and I've had my locket for nearly six years! My Coach bag was a gift, and I like mixing high and low end items.
CF: How would you describe your personal style?
CL: Very classic and comfortable. Sometimes I like to add a trendy piece to my uniform of cardigans and jeans, like leopard-print shoes, but usually I just like to keep everything very basic.
CF: Who do you look to for fashion inspiration?
CL: My Pinterest style board! I like to take ideas I see on there and incorporate them into my personal style.
CF: What’s your fall must have item?
CL: My Sperry Top-Siders! I got the classic Top-Siders for walking around campus and they're the most comfortable shoes I own. I wear them almost every day now.
CF: How many times a day do you change outfits?
CL: Just once: from my clothes for class into some sweatpants in the evening. You'll never catch me wearing them outside the dorm, but I can't live without them.
CF: What fashion item can you not live without?
CL: My locket. It's a great conversation starter, since everyone asks me what is inside (plot twist: it's empty!) and it has huge sentimental value to me.
How to: Start with your favorite pair of jeans and a pretty tank top, and add a cardigan in a neutral color for warmth. Pull on a pair of knee-high riding boots to merge comfort with style, and make sure to let a bit of your sock peek out for that touch of contrast that is so trendy this fall. Choose one interesting piece to wear every day and make sure it showcases a certain aspect of your personality that can serve as a conversation starter. Casey's intriguing locket and gorgeous cuff are perfect icebreakers that can aid in the all-important task of networking. You never know when a random stranger will offer you an internship as a result of wearing red lipstick (hey, it happened to me!) or if your role as Blazer Girl/Crazy Tie Guy will help your awesome professor remember you that much more.
