Staycation with Sally Hansen at University of Florida

Exclusive Feature, From the Editor

If there’s one thing you can be sure about when living and/or going to school in Gainesville, Florida, it’s that it’s going to be very hot for most of the year—especially when it comes to the end of the school year and summer. Even though the heat is overwhelming sometimes, the warm temperatures allow us University of Florida students to be outside just about as much as we want.

This means that it’s super easy to create a vacation-like itinerary for time spent in Gainesville – a Staycation, if you will. A lot of students stay in Gainesville over the summer to work, take summer classes or simply lounge at their apartment pool. With so much free time, it’s important to be aware of all the fun things to around town. There are so many ways to take advantage of the beautiful weather in Gainesville – the perfect opportunity to wear your favorite short skirts and dresses, right?

I rarely, if ever, am caught wearing anything that covers my legs during the spring or summer months in Gainesville. Not only do I love my super short dresses and skirts, but, well, it’s just TOO hot for anything else. I, like a lot of girls, love the feeling of having super smooth legs in all my short dresses and skirts – and Sally Hansen waxing products are the perfect way to achieve smooth legs for up to eight weeks at a time – yup, eight whole weeks. Beats shaving, right?

For my personal Staycation, I love to head downtown to my favorite Starbucks and grab an iced green tea and sit outside, catching up on my favorite fashion blogs or reading a new book. I highly suggest heading downtown to get some coffee or tea in the early afternoon or evening, when the heat isn’t as intense and the environment is a bit quieter.

Another great spot in Gainesville is Karma Cream, which has the best vegan ice cream around. I love going there to study, read or catch up with friends – and, of course, eating ice cream is a must.  I love pairing my high-waisted leather circle skirt with more casual pieces for an easy, summer look that is a little different than a simple sundress.

Of course, sometimes the Florida heat is just TOO much – in which case, you’re going to want to find somewhere to cool down. The Hippodrome Theater in downtown Gainesville (right across from my favorite Starbucks) has performances throughout the year, and is a perfect excuse to get a little dressed up and throw on a short skirt and sassy pair of heels. Plus, it’s a fun way to escape the 90-degree temperatures outside.

You can show off your Staycation style as well. To celebrate this partnership, CollegeFashionista is giving away $500 to one lucky winner who best captures their Staycation on social media. No matter what your idea of a perfect Staycation in Gainesville is, you’re bound to find something fun to do around town if you look hard enough. Enjoy the warm Florida weather, wear your shortest dresses and skirts and you’ll be sure to have a great Staycation no matter what your plans are.
