WEEKEND FORECAST: Pleasing Patterns
WEEKEND FORECAST: Pleasing Patterns

While Wisconsin makes up her mind about whether or not we will skip summer this year, we Fashionista/os are left to fend for ourselves while deciding what to wear each morning.  As we are still on the verge of another blizzard and a major mental meltdown due to the lack of sun, all we have left to keep our spirits high is our passion for fashion.  It’s time to get creative, people. Let’s show off all we’ve got and brighten up this town ourselves. And what better way to achieve this than with pleasing spring patterns?

Mixing patterns is an amazing way to create energy and interest within your ensemble. However, it does push many Fashionistas into some dangerous territory. Your look can go from genius to disastrous within two seconds flat, so it’s important to know what you’re working with.  The two main rules of mixing patterns is 1) typically, you can’t get away with more than two patterns at a time and 2) try to work around the same color scheme.  With that said, mix away!  Nothing is better than a Fashionista decked out in colors and patterns but still remaining refined and super chic.

This Fashionista is the ultimate pattern-mixer, and she does it like a pro! She’s holding on to her plaid shirt from these long winter months and converting it into a spring top by tying it at the waist. She’s paired her cozy plaid with a perfectly spring-like skirt; creating the ultimate juxtaposition between seasons and patterns.  She ends her look with some killer black wedges with a million buckles, adding the perfect dash of edge to her look. Now, tell me this Textile and Apparel Design student has not mastered patterns! This weekend, make some bold fashion moves and try some new pattern collaborations.  You will not be disappointed in your efforts!

Hint: Want to create a spring filled look but aren’t ready to put away your winter duds? Take those cozy pieces and tie them up! Unbutton your button ups from the bottom and use the loose ends as a tie.  Take your slouchy knit sweater and show off your stomach by tying up a corner. Or, take your long winter skirts like this floral stunner from Free People and show some leg by making a knot at the bottom.  This is a great way to cool off under the sun while still being prepared for the next snowfall.

Style On,
