Style Guru Bio: Caroline Mills

I'm Caroline Mills and I am a senior Media Studies major at Vassar College. I am a New York City gal, born and bred, and I like to think of my style as a bit like the city I grew up in: eclectic, electric and a little rough around the edges. My fashion sense is influenced by the streets, sounds and rhythm of the city. My style is constantly morphing, but I would describe myself as sophisticated punk chic meets Brooklyn bohemian hipster. I love a good leopard print as much as the next girl, as well as angular designs, lots of hardware, sparkly accents that catch your eye, bold patterns and cosmic prints, leather and lace and anything kitschy. While I love bright colors, especially pops of neon, I truly believe, like most New Yorkers, that everyone looks best in black. Sharing my love of black, my fashion icon of the moment is Lykke Li. I love her effortless style, her love of black and chiffon, her ombré hair and her awesome bodysuits. A few of my favorite designers are Alexander Wang, Proenza Schouler, Meadham Kirchhoff, Rag and Bone, Jil Sander, Marni, Miu Miu and Phillip Lim. While I love high fashion, at heart I'm a vintage girl who loves a good cheap find; I would take a trip to a flea market or thrift store (Beacon's closet in Williamsburg to be exact) over a trip to Barney's or Bergdorf's any day.
My passions are photography, art and of course, fashion. I hope to combine these interests as an editor or creative director at a magazine in the (near) future. To work towards this dream, I have interned at Spin magazine, Interview magazine and the New York Times Style Magazine. I had the pleasure of preparing and attending beautiful fashion shoots, where I was able to learn the tricks of the trade and witness the genius of many great stylists and photographers. It is through these internships, as well as by wandering the streets of New York where the Fashionista gazelles run free, that I have been able to develop my sense of style and eye for fashion. I am excited to show you the colorful and creative styles of my Vassar peers, I just hope I can do them justice and capture even a bit of the essence that makes Vassar so unique.
