STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: State of Lace
10Oct 11
What is equal parts demure, edgy and timelessly classic? The answer is most definitely lace! It is right on-trend this season as we move into fall and a perfect way to add a dash of girlish charm to your wardrobe. I definitely fell in love with lace details when they reemerged on the runways this past spring, and I am thrilled to see that the ladylike look is here to stay!
Whether you opt for a sheer lace maxi (a look I myself have been waiting for the right moment to try out) or want a little lace detailing on your shift dress, with lace it is sometimes hard to find a happy medium between super sexy and looking like your wearing your grandmother’s doily. With the unseasonably warm weather we have been having in Berkeley lately, a lacy mini dress, like the one this week’s Fashionista is rocking, is the perfect look to beat this crazy October heat. Paired with earthy neutral-toned accessories, the look is cool, crisp and girly.
Her adorable lace-up wedge booties definitely caught my eye. The rich brown suede is the perfect complement to the cream tone of her dress and, along with her leather belt, is a great example of mixing textures. They definitely prove that accessories do not need to be loud to in order to make a statement.
I for one have been paying a lot of attention to textures lately. Mixing fabrics is a wonderful way to add some dimension to your look. Whether you go for muted pieces, tones or bright prints, it’s all about adding some visual interest to your outfit!
If you need a quick texture pick-me-up, try adding some lace tights to your look. These will help you transition your lacy mini dress into a fall-appropriate piece as the temperature starts to fall!
