STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Color Your Hair with Headbands
18Jul 11
Accessories, accessories, accessories. This summer are all about accessories! From oversized sunglasses to oversized hats, from solid metal jewelry to light-weight feather earrings... this summer is all about grabbing attention without going overboard. I have seen many people pull their hair in a ponytail (it gets quite hot here in Toronto), and sometimes I really hate it! Not because it's not a good look, but it can be really boring and repetitive. This week's Fashionista caught my eye for two reasons: her overall simple and clean self-presentation, and the bold and contrasting statement on her head. I also love how she tucked her bangs under the headband, and gave some volume to the rest of her hair. This look reminds me of a '70s retro and bohemian look. Also, if you're a Lights' fan, you might also enjoy this style!
Personally, I think headbands are great DIY items. You don't have to spend too much money on the material, and you get pleasant results. To recreate her look, simply “grab a piece of cloth and cut it” (in her own words). Also, if you don't want to ruin the fabric by cutting it, you can simply wrap your head (stylishly, of course) with a scarf. A huge advantage to this is how versatile it can be! Once you see something you like, you can alter it slightly, and make it your own style. Different headbands can match different outfits; there are really no boundaries to this trend! Stores such as Forever 21, UrbanOutfitters and Free People are just one of the few stores where I have seen cool looking headbands. If you don't like headbands, you can also try headwraps!
Winter here in Toronto is ridiculously cold, and fall and spring are too windy. Therefore, summer time is your one and only chance to accessorize your hair. Why not use this time effectively?
