Cool colors are my favorite, so I was instantly attracted to Rachel's outfit today. Her light layers allowed her to incorporate denim shorts into her outfit despite the cooler weather. When I learned that she was studying design, I had to know more about her fashion philosophy.

Name: Rachel Dyche

Major: Fashion Design

Year: Sophomore

CollegeFashionista: What is your favorite article of clothing to shop for and where do you usually go to find it?

Rachel Dyche: I have currently been obsessed with trying to find bodysuits and tights/leggings. They are so easy to throw on and look perfect under anything! American Apparel has so many different styles for both items of clothing so I usually go there to find them. But I also do a lot of online browsing on websites like NASTY GAL and Black Milk that have the best options for every kind of bodysuits and leggings you can imagine.

CF: Who is your fashion idol?

RD: Honestly I really don't have a fashion idol. I kind of just like what I like. I look at a lot of fashion blogs and research upcoming trends, so I take inspiration from that as well as things I randomly see on the streets. But when it comes down to it, I don't really have a go-to person or designer that I take inspiration from.

CF: What type of clothing do you see yourself designing in the future?

RD: In the future I would love to work for Free People. I have always been in love with the brand and the way they construct their clothing. They are the epitome of my style and I would be ecstatic to have my input in the designs for the company. This being said, I would like to venture off and eventually be designing my own clothing. My style is a little bit rocker grunge with a tiny bit of femininity thrown in. I love studs and spikes, but have an obsession with floral prints as well. My clothing would most likely end up being a mashup of girly and grunge.

CF: Do you have any advice for college students shopping on a budget?

RD: Thrift stores, secondhand, or consignment shops! When I was younger my mom would take me to shop at our nearest thrift store all the time. You can find some of the most interesting pieces that are vintage yet still go along with the latest trends today. My most valuable finds consist of a royal purple silk button-down, mini red Coach purse and a black square toggle Coach purse. You have to dig, but you can find some of the most beautiful items for dirt cheap!

How To: Pair heart tights from American Apparel with distressed denim shorts from NASTY GAL.

Style On,

Jaquelin Dianne
