STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Shorten Up Winter With Summer Looks

Who said you cannot bring your favorite summer essentials into winter? Not a trendy Fashionista of course. No one wants to see the warm weather go; however, you can still keep summer memories near by leaving some of your favorite essentials in your closet. Dresses, skirts and even shorts can easily be worked into your winter wardrobe and still look great.

This year is a big year for incorporating shorts into your seasonal outfits, and this Fashionista is a true example of success. What I love about this outfit is not only does this Fashionista take simple items of clothing to make a great outfit, she is also able to combine several patterns making a look that works. A black and white striped shirt from Forever 21 and a pair of high-waisted shorts is a great combination for either early fall or late spring; but, by accenting the outfit with some great accessories it can become a winter sensation.

With the addition of the red jacket and black tights, this Fashionista goes from plain Jane, to a wow factor!  Both of these items not only add color, but also tie the look together. The brightness of the Gap jacket helps complement the black and white striped blouse by making the the stripes pop. Usually, I am not a fan of using two different patterns in one outfit, but this Fashionista proved me wrong by using pattern based tights. These black based tights, which can be found in a variety of colors at Forever 21 as well, have a faded flowered like pattern that can only be seen up close.  The pattern is bright enough to help make the outfit come together, but not too bright to where all the attention is placed on her legs. I absolutely love the understated classiness of this look. Sometimes, the simplest of elements added to an outfit can be the ones that makes the look come alive.

Lastly, what is an outfit without a great pair of shoes? Nothing, which is why these similar wedge heels, also from Forever 21, are a must. By choosing a wedged shoe, instead of a flat or heel, allows your look to fit easily into the classroom or an afternoon in the city.  Along with great shoes, belts can also be a wonderful accessory. An interesting belt can always enhance your waist bringing your outfit together. This Fashionista took her creativity to the next level by creating her own belt from a piece of ribbon. If there is anything that I love more than a great sale, it is using creativity throughout your wardrobe. The way the ribbon was used in this outfit, definitely showed this Fashionista’s fun side. Not only did she show a great way to top of an outfit, she showed her own style and taste. Let’s celebrate and dress up for winter, instead of waiting for it to pass us by!
