ACCESSORIES REPORT: Minimalist Chic

Accessories Report

Cool pastels, graceful layering, understated jewelry, whimsical shades. This Fashionista knows how to rock fall’s minimalist trend while keeping it interesting with small accents. Minimalism is perfect for the time when summer transitions into fall and the weather hasn’t quite cooled yet. This Fashionista’s look is incredibly refreshing in the midst of the summer heat.

I spotted this Fashionista as she was walking to class rocking a sheer peach blouse under a heather grey tank dress. Rather than a simple sandal, she paired her outfit with lace-up, open toe booties. To keep the outfit from being too flat, our Fashionista added a leather hobo bag to the mix. A simple necklace and modest bracelet add flair without making the outfit too fussy. My favorite accessory happens to be her 1960s inspired sunglasses! These keep the outfit amusing and playful.

Minimalism is a great trend that any aspiring Fashionista can easily integrate into their wardrobe. Minimalism is all about clean lines, solid colors, modest fits and statement pieces.  Metallic jewelry are popular statement pieces this season to rock with the minimalist trend. To start, try pairing a plain tee with skinny pants and an interesting shoe. A metallic collar necklace will keep the outfit chic, or a sheer, solid colored button-down blouse with tailored pants is a more debonair choice. A metallic wrist cuff or metallic belt will match perfectly. On cool autumn days, a solid blazer or motorcycle jacket will be a stylish addition to your outfit.

Like this Fashionista, mixing minimalist styles and fun accessories is sure to keep you chic and fashionable on your campus! Try websites like H&M and GoJane for trendy pieces to mix and match. Always appropriate and effortlessly chic, the minimalist trend is a definite must have this season.

Spotted: The minimalist trend was spotted in a number of runway shows for this fall 2012 season such as Chloé Fall 2012 RTWCéline Fall 2012 RTW and Valentino Fall 2012 RTW.
