STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: I, A Man

Uncategorized

Just the other day I watched the Prada Fall 2010 Men's collection presented in Milan's Fashion Week from the comforts of my computer chair. Another Magazine streamed the show over their website. Although, I wish I was in Milan for the actually Fashion Week. That would be ideal. But nevertheless, I'm a supporter of everything Miuccia Prada does. But what I thought was particularly interesting about this collection was how it related to the fall collections of other designers. Take Marc Jacobs' Fall 2010 Collection for example, it related to Prada's not in the sense of similar fashion but in the overall concept. That being the emphasis was put more on the styling over fashion. These shows were much more geared to the styling of the clothes rather than it being some groundbreakingly new fashion installation. Both collections were tailored and specific to their aesthetic. It takes true creative consciousness to be able to go in a different direction, possibly from ones other collections, yet still not loose sight of who you are.

One thing that I think is very important is a pair of well fitting slacks. The Prada show presented some very good examples of properly fitting mens pants. One thing I have noticed recently that seems to be "popular" among the male population, particularly in my area, is to roll up the pant legs so they are above the ankles. Particularly dress pants. When i think about it, It's actually a very Dior thing to do, as it can be seen in many of their Dior Homme runway shows. The look itself can be translated with no socks, just bare ankle, or worn with socks. In this case the gentleman wore socks with his look. I, personally, prefer the socks option. Some months back GQ Magazine did an article about "The Importance of The Colored Sock" I for one think colorful and/or patterned socks are of the utmost importance. They're interesting and can present either a complimenting or contrasting perceptive to your outfit. American Apparel carries a large selection of colored socks. They also have a large selection of colorful underwear. And I mean, who doesn't want cool colored undies?! Also this guy had really cool hair which is always a plus. I mean it's two-toned come on now. So yeah, that didn't hurt.

Dyed hair + Obnoxiously bright colored socks + Rolled up pants legs = A darn good time.
