STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Hats Off

Uncategorized

When I was younger, I had the most adorable black velvet hat with three small sunflowers on the front. It was a dress-up box staple, yet I refused to ever wear it out of the house. Since then I’ve always loved the look of hats but haven’t mustered up the confidence to rock one outside of the confines of my own home. Yet, as my monthly issues of Vogue, Glamour, and Lucky arrive on my doorstep with editorials of stylish women sporting trendy hats, I’m thinking I may have to step a bit out of my comfort zone and embrace this summer trend.

This Fashionista obviously has no such problem wearing a hat and she looks great doing it. Her entire outfit is simple, every piece- from her romper to her leather jacket- as understated and stylish as the next, but her hat is what truly tops it off. And, with summer concerts and festivals coming up, a cute fedora is the perfect accessory to keep both your hair and the sun out of your eyes. Forever 21 and Urban Outfitters have awesome selections, while Target’s recent collabroration with Eugenia Kim (hat-maker extraordinaire) provides some good styles as well. Not hitting up the music or arts scene this summer but still want to don a hat? Bring this to your next trip to the beach or wear this for an afternoon picnic. With all of these great options, I think I’ve just convinced myself to give hats another shot. Here’s to hoping I look as effortless and chic as this daring Fashionista!

Hint: Feeling creative and have some extra time on your hands? Spruce up last year’s hat by tying a ribbon around it, sticking a few flower pins onto the brim, or looking at this simple idea for a topless hat!
