TREND: Drop Dead Denim

Uncategorized

A couple of years ago, I stumbled upon a photograph of Ashley Olsen sporting this double denim style. I was in awe. The probability that I’d pull off pairing even my dearest dungarees with a top of the same material was slim to none. Or so I thought. After a few hours of dress up, a pile of my jeans—skirts, shorts, and blouses included—had accumulated on my floor. I may have trashed my closet, but I learned something throughout the process: In order to master this trend, you must marry pieces that have disparate shades, yet similar tones.

And the shades of blue this Fashionista wears wed perfectly—the lightest wash of her distressed boyfriend jeans match to the sky-colored hue of her tucked-in button down. By tucking in her top, she creates a clean and polished look so as not to take away from her heather and charcoal striped sweater. A sweater that insists we zero-in on her sandal-and-sock dressed feet, if we haven’t already. She completes her ensemble with an elegantly eye-catching gold watch, and speaking of eyes, the shape of her tortoise-rimmed sunglasses is refreshingly unique. It is a shape not every face can flaunt, but struggle she does not when it comes to taking risks in the name of fashion.

This Fashionista's outfit may be clean and polished, but the rips in her jeans, the low heels of her sandals, and the loose waves of her hair engender a considerably casual appeal as well. Simple black tote on shoulder and cup in hand, she makes her way to class, emitting a relaxed radiance all the while.

Hint: Sandal-and-socking is a fad many Fashionistas have been rocking. Whether you prefer low-rise heels or a high spring wedge, don’t be afraid to show some serious sock.
