STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: It Must Be A Thinking Cap

Style Advice of the Week

So, you’ve got a really awesome outfit planned, and you don’t want to sacrifice your style just because it’s cold out. Puffy coats are a major bummer when you’re trying to stay chic, but when the wind is such that there’s just no other option, how do we make up for all of that fluff? It’s a question I’m always asking myself, and frankly, it’s one I’m good at avoiding. Most of the time, I resort to layering leather over wool and pray that it’s not as nippy as Weather.com suggests.

But this Fashionista found an even better option. Yes, she’s sporting her warm, winter parka beneath that trench. And yes, it looks totally cool. Plus, we can see her belted maxi number beneath it all, so there’s no doubt that she’s prepared for whatever party, meeting, show or gathering is next on her agenda. (Oh, and she’s smartly remembered her opaque tights — never forget your tights.)

Aside from the fact that she’s married navy and black, a move that’s super sophisticated when done right, she’s also got animal print accessories. Her clutch is a neutral closet staple, but that hat is genius. Without it, her ensemble just wouldn’t be as striking, and I bet that puffy coat would be a bit more noticeable.

It’s hard to pinpoint why leopard pattern complements just about every color, shape and fabric, but luckily, it’s easy to find. If you’re as obsessed with this Fashionista’s getup as I am, you can find a similar fedora at Topshop, but if you prefer two-tone and an adorning feather, shop Eugenia Kim. Oh, and since beanies are clearly here to stay, I’m pretty sure this Free People cap will work just as well. Now, where’s my North Face?
