STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Comfortably Chic

Style Advice of the Week

When I think of writing final papers, preparing projects and studying for exams my mind goes straight to yoga pants. Although their everlasting comfort is undeniable they tend to have a negative domino effect on the rest of the outfit. This means sweatshirts, sneakers or UGG boots usually accompany them. So instead of falling into the yoga pant slump (I know it’s very tempting), put the effort in like today’s Fashionista. She is pulling off a very chic black and white ensemble that should inspire any stretchy pant wearing student to strive for more.

This Fashionista made studying fashionable by pairing some Dr. Martens with black skinny jeans, a striped black and white sweater and a black puffer jacket. The almost entirely black ensemble looks very slick and helps her look ready to tackle any final test or paper. The stripes in her top, however, are what caught my eye from far away. Even though I’m sure the outfit would still look great with an all black top, I like that the white stripes add some pop to her outfit. Sometimes you don’t necessarily need to wear bright colors to stand out.

Instead of reaching for a pair of black yoga pants when it's time to hit the books, grab a pair of your favorite black skinny jeans instead. You can throw on a pair of black Chuck Taylors, ankle boots or even Dr. Martens like this Fashionista to keep the sleek black theme on bottom. For a comfortable and cute top, put on a cream colored batwing sweater or a slouchy blue top. To top it all off put your hair in a bun and add some sparkle with a pair of studs.

Even though stressing out about finals often takes over any impulse to put together an actual outfit and not a conglomeration of mismatched pieces, take inspiration from today’s Fashionista. She was en route to the library and didn’t let future hours of studying hold her back from staying stylish. Since you are already thinking so much about schoolwork, don’t over think your study outfit. Just keep it effortlessly chic with darker hues, a comfortable sweater and a tough pair of shoes.
