Usually when you think of leather, the first themes that pop into your mind are edgy rocker or biker chic. This word association is followed by images of leather jackets and motorcycle vests, all of course in the color black. While these are the prevailing ideas of leather fashion statements, there are other ways to wear this material. For those of you who want to add eye-catching accents to your look, or who might shy away from this bold cloth, the happy medium to appease both of these concepts is hints of leather. This trend is the perfect balance of a subdued edginess with a sophisticated appeal that works for just about everyone.
This week’s Fashionista was spotted wearing leather accents throughout her outfit. What first caught my eye was her chic leather snakeskin print tote and combat boots. Then I noticed the more subtle leather running vertically down the front of her jacket. The combination of the obvious leather accessories and the fine detail in her jacket create an overall polished look with an instant cool factor. What makes this outfit so great is that the leather accents are dispersed throughout her ensemble, so as to not overwhelm her look. I love that she also mixed her hints of leather with another trend of colored denim in a perfectly plum fall hue.
You can find hints of leather in all types of apparel and accessories. For a look similar to this Fashionista’s, check out this leather accented motorcycle jacket and these suede booties with a leather fold. You can also opt for these skinny jeans with a leather tuxedo strip for a faux formal look. Or, if you’re getting fancy, this skater dress is another great way to incorporate leather accents. The important thing to remember is to make sure to keep a leather outfit limited to hints. Don’t go all out leather unless you’re imitating Catwoman, or Britney red jumpsuit circa “Oops!… I Did it Again” (I’m not opposed to this one, actually).
