I find it much easier to express my style in the fall and winter. It’s way more fun to play with fashion when there are tons of layers and textures involved. When spring and summer come around, I find myself to be pretty uninspired when it comes to putting together fabulous ensembles. I tend to stick to a uniform of a fun dress, cool jewelry and sandals. This year, however, I refuse to settle into a hot-weather style rut. I plan on playing more with separates to create cool looks that are more representative of my style.
These American Eagle Outfitters dark denim shorties were a great place to start in terms of figuring out the ultimate spring ensemble. It’s easy to just throw on a T-shirt and sandals with a pair of shorts, but I wanted to make them part of a more pulled together look. I paired them with my favorite white button-down and layered a statement cardigan on top. If you’re not feeling leopard and studs, a bright color would look just as fabulous. When the temperature gets a little warmer, lose the cardigan and wear the button-down with a cool statement necklace and stacks of bracelets.
To finish off the look, I wore some fabulous sandals. I love a bit of a heel, because it makes you walk with more poise and makes your legs look great – a must while in shorts! Right now, I’m feeling a chunkier look with lots of thick straps and cool details. Also, I think everyone should wear more hats; a hat can complete an outfit in a way no other accessory can, plus it can hide an awful hair day in the most fabulous way possible. A straw hat (with another touch a leopard – what can it hurt?) gave my spring ensemble just the touch of warm-weather glamour that I wanted.
With just a little push in the right direction, American Eagle Outfitters has totally inspired me to make my look more fabulous this spring and summer. With such fun pieces, it’s easy to make separates a must in the heat.
