My name is Samantha Martin and I’m a freshman at the University of Arizona. I’m studying Pre-Business and have a passion for fashion! As a child, I would constantly rummage through my mother’s closet and try on her clothes, shoes and makeup and imagine the older version of myself tackling the world as a fashionable, stylish young woman. Now that I’m at that stage in my life, I couldn’t be happier to be stepping out as a writer for CollegeFashionista!
I’m a true believer that through fashion, you can be anything you want to be. Fashion in itself is a never-ending learning process and a form of self-expression. If you love what you’re wearing, you will feel good about yourself and how others perceive you. That’s why I always encourage others to take risks: because in the end, your style is a reflection of who you are and as people we are all equally different. Don’t be afraid to be yourself! Besides fashion, I love all things related to beauty. I feel like a kid in a candy store whenever I step into Sephora. I find my crazy curly hair challenging and I love finding new ways to style it. Other than being a Style Guru for the University of Arizona, I’m also an aspiring beauty guru and fashion blogger.
My style constantly changes depending on my environment and mood. One day, Marilyn Monroe might inspire me, while the next I’m inspired by Michael Jackson (yes, men’s fashion inspires me as well). I usually get my inspiration from magazines like Vogue, Marie Claire and Harper’s Bazaar, but I also follow a lot of fashion blogs. In my free time I like to hang out with my friends, read, draw, volunteer or do outdoor activities like hiking. I’ve made it my goal to inspire others, especially women, to be as confident as they can possibly be and to always stay true to themselves. Fashion is such a powerful form of expression and I’m so excited that I have the opportunity to teach my peers about it. Don’t be afraid to approach me on campus and make sure to look out for my FASHIONISTA SPOTLIGHT articles every Wednesday.
