StyLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Stars And Stripes

Style Advice of the Week

Stripes, stripes and more stripes. If there anything I’ve been seeing more of this year, it’s definitely the infinite amount of stripes in all different shapes and sizes. From hats to shirts and pants to shoes, you cannot go wrong with showing your fun side with some variations of this trend. You can combine different colors and widths to mix things up a bit by forming it into your own style.

Sometimes plain stripes can get a little boring but playing with colors and sizes can bring your outfit to life. For example, try out this J.Crew Sequin Stripe Tee can add some edge and sparkle to your everyday wardrobe. This would be a great top for a fun night out or even New Years Eve in a few weeks! If you choose to switch your stripes to vertical, you can potentially elongate your body and look even taller. This trick is especially my favorite! Here is a French Connection Royalle Jersey Vneck Dress that is sure to add a few inches. Its monochromatic color scheme and thick stripes can ultimately elongate your torso.

My Fashionista of the week outfit began with a simple, striped look with wide, horizontal blue stripes. She finished it off with a pair of jeans and some brown boots that are perfect for trekking from class to class for a busy day on the DU campus. This classic look she is sporting is great for multiple occasions.

Experiment with your own selection of stripes and mix and match different widths and colors!

Spotted on the runway—Dolce&Gabbana took advantage of the stripes trend and added multiple variations into their Spring 2013 line. Check it out!
