STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Darling in Dots

Style Advice of the Week

It may not be warm enough yet to bring out that itsy-bitsy, teeny-weeny, yellow polka dot bikini. But that doesn’t mean that you can’t rock that famously fearless retro print. It is one of the simplest and well-known patterns that has truly stood the test of time in the fashion world for decades. From Minnie Mouse’s trademark party dress to I Love Lucy’s spotted wardrobe, polka dots are a household pattern that can be printed onto just about anything. It seems that there is something inherently sophisticated about them, without being stodgy and outdated. They are making quite the comeback from an old-fashioned design to a chic and flirty must-have for this season.

This Fashionista chose to rock the classic black and white combination for her sheer chiffon blouse. The top is flowy and light, giving movement and casualness for a comfortable yet trendy vibe for class. Since she chose to go the monochromatic route on top, the splash of color of her coral skinnies gives pizzazz to the outfit, without distracting from her speckled shirt.

Polka dots are usually associated with both informal and feminine wear. However, designers have started incorporating this spotty trend into both formal and edgier attire. Perfect for a date night or a sunny spring afternoon, maxi dresses have recently been seen adorned in dots on celebrities and campus Fashionistas. The combination of the maxi dress and the polka dotted print is a great example of how to sport two of the most sought-after spring staples at the same time. If you’re not the girliest Fashionista in the world, polka dotted cigarette jeans and dynamic cocktail rings are calling your name. There is really no way to go wrong with this playful and trendy pattern. What can I say; I’m completely dotty for this trend!
