ACCESSORIES REPORT: Sky-High Thigh-highs

Accessories Report

I was afraid I was going to be short of Fashionistas during midterms week, with everyone cozying up in hoodies and UGGs and hidden away in their favorite cubicles in Case. However, to my pleasant surprise, many co-eds brought out all the best stops to study in style.

This Fashionista managed to give the schoolgirl staple of knee socks a whole new look. Instead of solely being associated with the classic prep vibe, these over the knee socks can have a cool, almost grunge connotation. With the sleet, snow and endless precipitation we have up North, it can be tricky to wear dresses in the wintertime. Luckily, these stockings have a practicality to them that ankle socks definitely do not. For jersey dresses, circle skirts and even high-waisted silk shorts, a pair of sheer tights look rad underneath the slouchy knit socks. She included extra edge with a leather jacket, and popped some color with a cobalt blue scarf against her otherwise monotone outfit. As for the shoes, anything from ankle booties to cowboy boots to your favorite riding boots will complete the look. Whether you’re cramming for that tough exam or just feeling like dressing up your favorite knits, take a tip from this Fashionista and work this thigh-skimming accessory.

Spotted: For the past few years, top designers such as David Neville and Marcus Wainwright of rag & bone have upped the ante with their runway footwear by pairing their boots and heels with dramatic cable knit knee socks. Frills, bows and adornments of all kinds rimmed thigh-high stockings giving them that extra flair that’s impossible to ignore.
