This week’s Fashionista struck me with her über cool and relatable look. Most of my style advice tends to revolve around creating looks that appear more difficult than they really are. My goal is to help you learn how to style you wardrobe in ways you didn’t think to before. This style is a perfect example! This outfit is head-to-toe basic staples, which you probably already own all or most of. What you don’t own you can make up for with your own style improvisation.
Not only is this look easy to put together but it gives you a warm winter alternative to layers on layers that leave you feeling more like a snowman than a Fashionista. Furthermore, you’ll be sure to stand out amongst everyone else who is wearing lots of layers.
To get this Fashionista’s look, peek into your closet and repeat after me: I do have something to wear. I like that she worked around a white, gray and black palette but feel free to make this into a look that pops with monochromatic color. First reach for your favorite comfy tee; I’m particularly crazy about Hanes T-shirts. I also am in love with T-shirts from Wildfox Couture; their comfort is unmatched and the more you wear it the comfier it gets.
Next, something to remind you of summer — shorts. I recommend a white distressed pair; shop your nearest LF Stores for the perfect style if you don’t already own your own. If you want something a bit more sophisticated, look for a woven style like tweed. This will also keep you warmer. Next in your layering, reach for a crewneck. If you’re in need of a new style, browse through the boy’s selection on KarmaLoop. Add a varsity jacket on top and tights on the bottom. Don’t forget thigh high socks, warmly tucked under knee high boots. As for a purse reach for your favorite leather or suede style — the more worn in the better.
For further minimalist meets grunge style inspiration, stalk some of my favorite bloggers! For minimalist and monochromatic fans you’ll become obsessed with Victoria Tornegren’s simple and gorgeous style. Feeling grungier but sick of the grunge tag on tumblr? Get inspired by Electric Raspberry. Lastly for minimalist style that still manages to be fun and playful get inspired by CollegeFashionista alumni Jackie Gasc, who just graduated from SCAD. Let these ladies help you become more familiar with what you already own and how to rework it in new ways.
