Fashion is all about being inventive and open to new ideas, even if that means just modifying accessories. Change up your habitual routine of wearing a belt and try something new with your wardrobe! You can dress sensibly and with style by donning classic suspenders! Suspenders are a great alternative to belts and they add a cultured and intriguing flair to any look. They go perfectly with corduroy pants or slacks and can make a simple outfit look trendy and cool. Corduroy pants paired with suspenders particularly create the ideal combination of a scholarly yet rugged ensemble. Check out this week’s Fashionisto as he effortlessly blends his academic and outdoorsy style by mixing and matching his clothes this fall season!
Name: Alec Reda
Major: Philosophy/English
Year: Junior
CollegeFashionista: What are you wearing?
Alec Reda: Levi corduroy pants, H&M boots, a T-shirt from Urban Outfitters and suspenders from a thrift store.
CF: What inspires your overall style?
AR: Well I grew up in the Appalachian area with an outdoorsy family so I always wore warm thick clothes and I guess that contributes to my style now. I wear a lot of flannel.
CF: What made you want to wear suspenders today?
AR: It’s actually a funny story. I only have one belt and it recently just broke so I started wearing suspenders as an alternative. I just kind of like the way they look.
CF: What is the best outfit to wear suspenders with?
AR: I like to wear earth tones with suspenders. I usually wear them with corduroy pants or slacks and a button up shirt or a T-shirt. I wouldn’t wear them with denim though.
How To: This Fashionisto's captivating and unique look can easily add some flair to your style! Start off with a simple plain T-shirt or spice it up like this Fashionisto and wear one with stripes! Put aside your jeans and throw on some corduroy pants. Don't forget to hold them up with classic suspenders! To finish off the look, put on some sturdy leather ankle boots and make sure to stay warm by wearing a knit jacket if it's chilly outside!
