Fashionistas are back in school. They're ready to hit the books, but they're probably also hoping to spice up their resume with a new internship. That said, every internship means reevaluating your wardrobe. This Fashionista uses the campus as her runway by sporting what she calls her ‘corporate chic’ look around campus. She says that it makes her feel sexy and ready to work. Her outfit is the perfect inspiration for Fashionistas who are looking for style advice on how to be chic and appropriately dressed for the job! Like Cosmopolitan writer Amy Perez wrote in October 2010 in an article about the workplace trend, “You need clothes that will make you stand out without compromising comfort or elegance.”
Name: Jessica Liu
Major: Textiles and Clothing
Year: 5
CollegeFashionista: If your house were on fire, what is the one item you would grab to save from your closet?
Jessica Liu: I’d definitely grab my favorite pair of nude pumps. The nude pumps are a must-have and can go with almost any outfit, casual or formal.
CF: What are you looking forward to wearing this fall?
JL: Boots. It’s all about the right comfort and the right style. Right now I’m really into knee-high boots with a heel. I want the height and the warmth during the cold days. As far as color goes, I love a brown boot.
CF: Which celebrity do you admire for his or her wardrobe?
JL: I love Rachel McAdams' style. She isn’t over the top, or too plan and simple. Everything she wears, she wears with confidence.
CF: How would you describe your style?
JL: I always try to look corporate chic — that way I feel sexy and ready for work. This outfit is inspired by that mentality.
How To: For Jessica, corporate chic means comfort and simplicity. If your job involves a lot of running around in the office, you can emulate Jessica’s style by choosing flats that have a design or jewel ornamentation instead of heels. This embellishment allows the flats to have extra appeal without looking too casual. For comfort without constraint, a flowy top works well in the office. This top can easily be paired with a chic pencil skirt like Jessica's. The pencil skirt shows sophistication and brings the outfit together. Forever 21 and Nordstrom are good shopping destinations for the pencil skirt. Designer Patrice-Ramos Diaz even came up with a new workplace collection to help take corporate chic to the next level. To complete her outfit, this Fashionista keeps her handbag simple with a stripped pattern and her handmade jewelry light. Her homemade pearl bracelet is a great way to save money and keep the look classy. So remember, keep it chic and simple when dressing for the job!
