Layering plays an important role in helping Fashionistas get through these cold winter months. In the bitter Northeast, layering can consist of long sleeve T-shirts, oversized sweaters and knee-length jackets. As you can imagine, this can occasionally cause a Fashionista to feel overpowered by her heavy winter wardrobe. But there is no need to worry, as there are more fashion-forward ways to layer; it is no longer necessary to pile jackets on top of sweaters on top of shirts. Fashionistas, it is time to invest in the vest!
It was a warm January day in Massachusetts (I’m serious — it was pushing 33 degrees!), and I spotted this Fashionista walking through the picturesque Phillips Academy campus in downtown Andover. Her faux fur vest stood out to me and proved to be the perfect layering piece for her Saturday afternoon stroll down Main Street. She created a cohesive look by pairing the fashion-forward vest with several classic pieces: dark wash skinny jeans, black riding boots, a semi-sheer button-down and the petite Louis Vuitton Speedy purse. She completed the look with a colorful, statement scarf, adding an extra bit of flair to the outfit.
Not completely gung-ho on the faux fur look? Not to worry, as there are many styles of vests for Fashionistas to turn to! Going for that classic, preppy look? Grab one of the J.Crew Excursion Quilted Vests and pair it with a cashmere sweater or a simple chambray top. If you are a bit edgier, go for the denim vest with a pair of leather leggings. Vests are layering pieces and leave room for your favorite shirt or sweater underneath. Even better, vests are not restricted to only Fashionistas! Fashionistos can pair a classic Patagonia fleece over a button-down or a Barbour® Quilted Vest over a winter sweater.
Vests are a perfect wardrobe staple for any Fashionista. They provide warmth, add instant style to an outfit and allow you to reveal parts of your outfit that the typical jacket hides. They are versatile and are perfect for layering through the fall, winter and spring months. No need to hide beneath oversized, heavy jackets; instead, invest in the vest!
