LET’S HEAR IT FOR THE BOYS: I’m Feeling Blue

Let's Hear it for the Boys

When it comes to menswear, some might immediately think neutral color palettes and predictable staples — “masculine colors” paired with structured looks. Well, Fashionistos, it’s time to kick those assumptions to the curb! This fall, we are witnessing an outbreak of color pops in menswear. So break out your colorful pieces and add some flair to your everyday look!

I spotted this Fashionisto on a beautiful fall day in Carolina — my favorite time of year for fashion. It was the perfect temperature for jeans and a light sweater and his sky blue sweater immediately caught my eye. Blue pops of color were shown extensively on fall and winter 2011 menswear runways, such as Jil Sander and Versace, and this Fashionisto paired the color perfectly with the rest of his outfit to give it just the right amount of pop.

When choosing a blue (or any pop of color), it is important to consider the rest of the outfit when making the selection. This Fashionisto chose a darker wash denim, and thus picked a lighter shade of blue that stands out against the darker wash of the pant. It adds the right amount of focus, while not overpowering the rest of the look.

To recreate this Fashionisto’s look, start with a pair of dark wash denim. After you choose the denim, you can then add the pop of color! If you want to stick with blue, like this Fashionisto did, this option from Zara is great. If you want to explore other color options, American Apparel has some great selections as well. When adding accessories, this Fashionisto stayed with the gray color palette. He chose a bag and shoes in the same hue, which kept the focus on the sweater while also drawing attention to the accessories. Try this look out for yourselves, Fashionistos! If you choose the right hue for your focal piece and accessories, you are sure to ace it!
