LET’S HEAR IT FOR THE BOYS: Garnet on Game Day

Let's Hear it for the Boys

At South Carolina, and in the SEC in general, game day looks are taken to a whole new level. Jeans and a cropped T-shirt sporting the school’s name and mascot are swapped for dresses, khaki pants, and bow ties. Saturday after Saturday, the ladies show up in chic and classy yet flirty game day dresses, and the gentlemen flaunt their Gamecock pride head to toe in garnet and black. Sure, you could always opt for a pair of khaki shorts and a traditional Carolina jersey, but why not go for something a little more unique and fashion-forward?

This Fashionisto caught my attention amongst a sea of garnet and black, while walking through the pre-game tailgates before South Carolina’s 54-3 victory over Kentucky. Being a warmer October day, he opted for a classic, short-sleeved black polo shirt and sandals, but remained true to his game day spirit by pairing them with a unique pair of pants, embroidered with none other than the Carolina Gamecock. Pennington and Bailes offers some great options for game day fashions; just select your school and shop away for your game day staples! For cooler fall days — especially for the schools farther north — you can swap out the polo shirt and sandals for a button-down shirt, a collegiate bow tie and a pair of classic boat shoes

Fashionistos, when choosing your game day outfit, make sure to look for pieces that fit well with your school’s traditions, while adding your individual flair to complete the look. Although I might be biased, I am proud to say that while other schools may dress up for football games, none wear their colors as proudly as the Gamecocks wear their garnet and black!
