LET’S HEAR IT FOR THE BOYS: Check Out This Color

Let's Hear it for the Boys

When it comes to the fall season, many people succumb to dark, muted, stereotypically fall colors — browns, earth greens, eggplant purples and rustic reds take center stage in the closet, while bright, statement-making colors get folded away for the upcoming seasons. This week’s Fashionisto, however, kicked that stereotype to the curb, and caught my attention in a colorful, bold, statement-making shirt.

This Fashionisto incorporated two major fall fashion trends into his wardrobe: color and pattern. As I mentioned in my previous post, pops of color— one of the colors being tangerine — were a major trend on the menswear fall and winter 2011 runways. Giorgio Armani and Salvatore Ferragamo both utilized the fall color in their collections, and this Fashionisto wore the trend perfectly. Keeping the jeans that he paired with the shirt dark and muted, he was able to bring full attention to the colorful top.

The second trend that this Fashionisto brought to his look was a bold, attention-grabbing pattern. Plaid was seen all over the fall 2011 runways, including rag & bone. He kept his accessories limited so as to not overdo the look.

To achieve this Fashionisto’s on-trend look, start with a pair of dark washed denim paired with a plaid shirt. ASOS has several great options for plaid shirts. If you want to add an urban feel to the look, like this Fashionisto chose to do, you can add your favorite hat in the same color palette. The blue hat paired well with the orange shirt, and matched the light blue lines in the pattern. Another element of this Fashionisto’s outfit that I loved was his glasses. Try this pair from Urban Outfitters, and they will keep you looking fashionable, even if you don’t need a prescription!

Fashionistos, even though the fall season is upon us, don’t feel like you have to rid your closet of bright, bold colors. Hues like orange, red, green and purple can be seasonally appropriate while still making your outfit stand out. Don’t be afraid to break out your brighter pieces and pair them with statement-maker patterns to create an overall bold look.
