STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Pastel Perfection

Style Advice of the Week

As the school year comes to a close, what better way to goodbye to spring and hello to summer than to surround yourself with pastel colors? Pastels provide a different color palette for your ensemble without overloading your outfit with too much color.

This Fashionista subdues the dark colors in her outfit by wearing a light pink cardigan from Forever 21 with a black tank top and printed skirt. The cardigan also brings out the floral pattern on her skirt, which is also a Forever 21 purchase, by accenting the color of the flowers.

What’s nice about pastel colors is that you can wear them with dark colors, such as the basic navy shirt you usually only wear during the winter, and it can transform the piece into something wearable for spring.

The True Love Shrunken Oxford from Madewell is the perfect example of a pastel-colored shirt that can be worn with virtually anything. Slip on a pair of white shorts or a denim skirt, throw on your favorite pair of sunglasses and sandals and you’re ready to go out and enjoy the sun. The shirt can be worn either tucked in and buttoned up all the way, or it can be worn with a tank top underneath, buttons open and sleeves rolled up for a more casual look.

For the Fashionistos out there, consider the Stanton Shorts from J.Crew. The Faded Mango, Coastal Aqua and Surf Yellow colors will be great additions to any closet. Wear the shorts with a chambray shirt or a simple white button-up or polo and you’ll be comfortable, colorful and classic.
