This season, color is compulsory. Lavish is the look and velvet is very, very in, yet how does a Fashionista find balance between all of these trends? Over accessorizing can make you look like a young girl who found Mom’s jewelry box, but too little detail makes an outfit boring and drab.
I ran into this Fashionista on the way to dinner with her sorority sisters. Her Marc Jacobs loafers with gold buckles, Free People salmon corduroy skinny jeans and an oversized white leather Coach bag brought together a menagerie of runway trends; however, her fringe top and neutral cardigan balance out the whole look. Each element of this outfit takes staple pieces one step further. Her loafers deviate from traditional leather boat shoes or mocassins, and her colored cords are a nice change from bright, matchstick skinnies. The bag, both functional and fashionable, is a particularly bold choice—a bright white for the winter months that pairs well with her shirt. Her style falls right in the middle of a balancing act between “too much is never enough” and “less is more.” To find your own fusion of runway and everyday, check out my interview with this Fashionista below!
Name: Claire Steinbronn
Major: Pre Pharmacy
Year: Freshman
CollegeFashionista: How would you describe your style?
Claire Steibronn: I have a pretty classic sense of style. I would say most of what I wear isn’t trendy and is always in style.
CF: What is one staple piece in your wardrobe?
CS: I have a pair of brown boots that I wear with literally everything. They are versatile and can make something more casual or dressy.
CF: What are your favorite places to shop?
CS: I have severe obsessions with Nordstrom, J. Crew, Free People and Anthropologie.
CF: Who is your style inspiration?
CS: Kate Middleton. That girl has it down to the nines. Her sense of style is so classy, yet sophisticated. I haven’t seen her wear something that I haven’t wanted myself.
How To: To get Claire’s everyday look, start with a simple shirt with a little detailing like studs or lace. Pair this with long, fitted cardigan in a neutral color and some simple jewelry (try bangles or a thin watch.) Go beyond colored skinny jeans and look for some corduroys or chinos. Finish the look with an embellished pair of flats and a statement purse or carryall.
