STYLE GURU BIO: Olivia Majors

Style Guru Bio

Born and raised in Tennessee, I am definitely a southern girl at heart. I love summer dresses, sweet tea and cowboy boots and I am in love with my new home in Nashville. I am currently a junior at Lipscomb University where I am double majoring in Fashion Merchandising and Textiles and Apparel. I am the happiest I have ever been here in Nashville. The city itself is rich in culture due to its many residents from around the world. Plus, it is filled with southern charm, eclectic style and, of course, music galore.

Although I will always love the South, I am glad that I have been fortunate enough to travel a lot in my years as a teenager. I have been to several states around the country and have seen fashion capitals like New York City and even Paris. Travel is something that I am very passionate about. I love the diversity of culture, dress, food etc. that I find in other places and I am always excited about my next trip. I have seen all sorts of styles from around the world and been inspired by some of the wonderful places I’ve been able to see. In addition to fashion and travel I am also a lover of art. I love to draw and paint in any spare time I have. I always gain new ideas for designs and outfits from the colors and textures in artwork. From the way I see it, inspiration is everywhere!

My interest in fashion came about several years before my move to Nashville. During high school, I worked at two local bridal stores and fell in love with all things wedding, especially the bridal gowns. My admiration for white dresses eventually grew into a love for red carpet gowns and anything that designers were putting on the runway. Although I do not wear a formal gown every day, I still find myself drawing daily inspiration from the tremendously talented Vera Wang and Monique Lhuillier. In fact, one day I hope to go back to where I was first introduced to fashion and open my very own bridal boutique.

As for my personal style, it is very eclectic. I love blue jeans, menswear and anything that sparkles. I am known to dress up one day and down the next depending on how I’m feeling. And it is not uncommon to find me with a giant bow or bright scarf around my head. To me fashion is expression, entertainment, creativity and well, fun. Fashion makes me happy and I am thrilled to be able to share it with you all over the course of this semester. I will be writing the What To Wear segment giving advice on what to wear for all sorts of different occasions. I must agree with the wise words of Edith Head, “You can have whatever you want if you dress for it.”
