The Christmas season is officially upon us, and I couldn’t be more excited. Hanging out with my family, seeing hometown friends, exchanging gifts and holiday parties are what I most look forward to when the holidays come. As much as I love Christmas, it can sometimes be hard to get in the holiday spirit when its sixty-five degrees outside like it’s been here in Alabama, but can be even harder to figure out what to wear.
This week’s Fashionisto pulls off a perfect balance of dressing for the weather and dressing for the season. He’s wearing a festive pullover, blue jeans, and Converse tennis shoes. The first thing that caught my eye was his pullover. It’s a nod to infamous Christmas sweaters, but because of the smaller pattern and subtler color palette he achieves looking festive without being tacky. Once I got closer to the Fashionisto I was surprised to see that his Converse tennis shoes weren’t the usual canvas texture, instead they were made of leather! I’ve seen Converse in crazy patterns, but never in a different texture, so I had to know more. Unfortunately he bought them in a Converse outlet in Las Vegas, so you would probably have to do a little Internet hunting to find a pair for yourself.
Hint: You can still be festive without being tacky. Just stick to a small pattern, and avoid bright red and green. Either go for deep, rich crimson and forest colors, or try something unexpected like blue! Also, make your outfit more interesting by adding texture in unexpected places. This is something you can do year-round. This week’s Fashionisto did this by wearing leather tennis shoes. Some other items that have an unexpected texture are wax jeans, denim button-downs, and velvet blazers to name a few.
