STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Pattern Mix It Up

Style Advice of the Week

This summer has been full of different trends. From neutrals to bright neons, minimal stripes to colorful prints, high-low skirts to denim, this season the fashion world doesn’t really know what it’s doing. However, this fall season we are going to see a plethora of color, patterns, and textures that will rattle even the most fashion-forward Fashionistas and Fashionistos to the core. Take a look at Creatures of the Wind fall 2012 collection. Patterns on top of textures on top of even more patterns define the collection and it is a perfect example of the trends we will soon be seeing.

Come fall, colors, patterns, and textures are going to be constantly combined, creating fresh and exciting looks anyone can achieve. This Fashionisto is a bit ahead of the trend. He pairs his heavily printed shirt with a minuscule pinstripe short, keeping his pattern mixing simple for summer. His solid gray shoes provide a solid foundation for him to stand on without taking away from the overall look. But his shirt is the piece that I fell in love with. The bright blue color is just bright enough to make a statement without being too bright, and the confetti pattern is perfect for any occasion. Prints can also be easily transitioned from day to night. Wearing it like this Fashionisto does is perfect for the daytime, but wear it with dark denim and boots at night.

Fashionistos should take a look at this Floral Print Patchwork Shirt and these Aztec printed shorts. Fashionistas, check out this Long Sleeve Floral Shirt and this River Island romper. Start trying to pair different prints together with items already in your wardrobe. Play around with different textures and colors, and get ready for an explosion of this trend in the fall. Don’t be afraid to pair stripes and polka dots, or floral and plaid. Minimalism is sticking around towards the end of summer, but as soon the season changes it will be all about bold, exciting prints and mixed patterns. Start preparing now and pattern mix it up.
