FASHIONISTA SPOTLIGHT: Allison Hamilton

Fashionista Spotlight

To some, the idea of summer research on campus sounds like the opposite of a good time, but ask any student who has stayed: it’s actually really fun! Aside from the time spent working with professors, students find lots of opportunities to kick back and enjoy the good weather. Allison will be doing research on the hill for her second summer in a row, and, as only she knows how, is dressed with sophistication and simplicity in mind.

Name: Allison Hamilton

Major: English Literature and French

Year: rising Junior

CollegeFashionista: How does your style reflect your personality?

Allison Hamilton: Presumably I could come up with better words to describe my personality than “simple” and “understated,” but they do mark my style. I have a propensity for minimalizing, which probably explains why I rely on dressy stock pieces that I can take anywhere, and wear anywhere – though, sporting events are a stretch. I've been called out on that.

CF: How will u dress to beat the heat during summer research?

AH: Well, I've already started off on bad footing in regards to this question. Yesterday I decided to wear a thick, black sweater and shorts to read outside, which made for quite an uneven sunburn (watch tan included.) Attractive, right?  It might be time to invest in some lightweight t-shirts and tank tops (J. Crew get at me.)

CF: Do you have any style icons?

AH: I wanted to say no, but who am I kidding – Natalie Portman is a goddess. I admire how she mixes classic and off-beat looks. I'm not sure how successfully her style is replicated in mine, but I certainly take notes from her.

CF: What are your favorite colors this season?

AH: When it gets warm out, I fall back on old favorites – neutrals, corals, and blues. It might be over the top to suggest that I wouldn't be caught dead wearing anything else, but that's likely true. I guess I can pride myself on consistency.

How To: Structured skirts are a refined way to stay cool, especially in cotton or canvas. Madewell and J.Crew have patterned options and also colored, both simple and bold. A beaded strand makes a sweet statement and can also look beach-ready and relaxed. Anthropologie will always be the place for unique accessories; their Pyxis necklace is perfect for summer. Ray-Bans are a warm weather classic that can add sophistication to any look.
