Cardigans of all lengths, materials and patterns are making their way into our favorite preppy ensembles and replacing the varsity jacket for more of a polished and refined look. As the preppy trend has evolved around the years, it also seems to grow on campus as we transition into winter with multiple layers. This summer, the preppy trend embraced a lot of bright colors but this fall it is all about deep and rich earth tones.
Today’s Fashionista put a nerdy twist on her preppy ensemble with some oversized glasses and high-waisted pants. Her look is simple, sophisticated and includes many elements of the preppy trend. Varsity jackets, monograms, blazers, plaid and long cardigans are the must-haves for a preppy ensemble this fall and winter. My favorite elements to pair together for a prim and preppy look include a button-up shirt paired with a cardigan, chunky scarf and a crochet skirt with tights.
In last week's post I discussed the vast presence of the grunge look on campus. While these trends are completely opposite, you can mix and match them to create something beautiful and edgy. Many trends are becoming versatile in the sense that you can pair them with similar trends or opposite accessories. Today’s Fashionista for example, added some oversized glasses to her preppy ensemble to send her look over the edge in studious points. Another accessory that can be added to send a preppy ensemble over the top are knee-high socks.
Pairing skirts with tights is also another way to achieve the preppy look, so pull out your skirts from summer and pair them with patterned or colored tights. Embrace the inner prep this fall and winter and score major style points!
