WHAT TO WEAR: Cold Weather

What to Wear

We’ve hit that time of the season – when lines on the road disappear under layers of frost and everyone is walking around looking like Rudolph. Despite Facilities Management agreeing to increase the heat in the dorms, I’m pretty sure know one has noticed any additional warmth due to just how positively frigid it is outside. A few more weeks of these single degree temperatures and hopefully we will begin to see a surge towards spring. For now, however, we need to prepare ourselves for these freezing temperatures. The best solution? Cute coats, earmuffs and mittens of course!

This Fashionista is working it all. Although I would obviously prefer it to be a bit warmer, I have to say that I love the winter accessories. Other times of the year many people are afraid to wear hats because they think it is too bold a statement. There are no excuses during the winter, though, when hats become a necessity. Although the classic trapper hat is a New England favorite, I have become obsessed with winter headwraps. It’s the perfect medium between a hat and earmuffs – great coverage without awful hat-hair.

Boots are also a snowy day staple. Although UGGs are about as comfortable as you can be outside of slippers, their name says it all. When Bean boots are not a requirement for sloshing around in slush, boots with fur are a winter favorite! To avoid looking like the Abominable Snowman, choose boots with fur accents as opposed to ones that are entirely fur.

Many of us struggle with trying to fit our pants into our boots. Choose a pair of skinny pants or leggings. These slip easily into boots without the uncomfortable bunching. Adding a contrasting colored knee sock adds extra warmth and creates a greater statement.

One Simple Change: When the weather takes a 180 and it becomes unbearably hot under so many layers, throw on a cute vest instead of the full puffer or wool coat. Add a loose infinity scarf and ditch the rest of your winter accessories. You’ll remain comfortably cool under those winter rays!
