Fashion is more than wearing the latest trend. It’s about being yourself. Whether you’re a firework, you were born this way, or it’s your life, fashion’s ability to convey a person through an outfit is what renders it as important as a person’s own interests. It is an outlet of creativity, a morphing work of art, and it nurtures our daily need to express.
My name is Monika Haebich, and I’m pleased to announce that for a third wonderful semester, I will be covering University of Pennsylvania fashion with you as my inspiration. As fashion, photography, music, art and traveling have always been my passions as well as my inspirations, it may come as no surprise that in my spare time I enjoy being a layout contributor and a blog editor for The Walk, Blog Editor for UPenn’s section of Her Campus and a campus representative and blogger for Digitalebas, an emerging fashion company. Aside from that and managing my recently created Etsy shop, I have also found a home at CollegeFashionista. As Head Style Guru at Penn, a marketing intern for CollegeFashionista and a social media intern, I could not be more grateful to be part of an organization that encourages college students to push fashion boundaries and explore the meaning of fashion for themselves.
Fashion has long consumed me. As a child, I revered every garment my mother wore. Her upbringing as the daughter of a prominent Korean actress and her and my grandmother’s unconventional taste in clothing left her constantly exposed to the world of high fashion and boundless creativity. While the designers in my mother’s college wardrobe were designers I could only dream of one day wearing, I still find myself inspired by her quirky, yet classic, sense of style and affinity for wearing all black.
This semester, I look forward to seeing how Penn’s newest year conveys Penn’s eclectic style. Fashion has given me the pen to define myself, and through this blog and our new twitter (@CfUPenn), I cannot wait to record how you reinvent, redefine, and style on!
