Hello Fashionistas and Fashionistos!
I am Monika Haebich, your Monday style guru, and I’m looking forward to sharing with you weekly style advice inspired by your street style fashion.
After a semester of writing for CollegeFashionista and having been further exposed to the amazing taste and individuality of Penn students, I was eager to write and learn more about Penn’s fashion scene. In addition to working with CollegeFashionista this summer, I am interning at Melissa Shoes, which has already been an experience that I am extremely grateful to be a part of. During the school year when I am not reading the latest fashion blogs or fulfilling my guilty pleasure for online shoe shopping, I work as a layout contributor and street blogger for The Walk, Blog Editor for UPenn’s section of Her Campus and as a campus representative and blogger for Digitalebas, an emerging fashion company.
While music has played an essential role in the development of my sense of style, so have my travels. I have been extremely fortunate that my parents share my love of adventure and exploration that I, and our travels to numerous countries consistently leave me humbled and amazed by the various cultures of the world. My earliest fascination with fashion began around 10 years ago, when my mother asked me to draw my dream dress during a family trip to Thailand. She later surprised me by taking me to a fabric store filled with magnificent Thai silks dyed in the most vivid shades of every color, where I picked out the fabrics for my first custom made and self-designed dress. Intrigued by the process in which my simple sketch was brought to life and the rich Thai culture that influenced its design, I became increasingly fascinated with the world of fashion. In addition to Thailand, some of the most influential places I have been to in terms of my appreciation for fashion, style and culture, include Italy, Japan and Morocco.
While I love to stay in touch with all of the recent fashion trends, I am also a firm believer that style should be unique to a person. Fashion rebels and those with often outrageous and distinct styles have always been my fashion inspirations, and there is nothing I appreciate more than an individual that is ready to break and reconstruct the so called “rules” of fashion. This summer, I look forwarding to sharing the fun street style that I see with you, and I cannot wait to be inspired by you, Fashionistas and Fashionistos.
