STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Sheer Genius

Style Advice of the Week

For a girl who was born on Thanksgiving, it seems fitting that my favorite season is fall. While winter comes in a close second for my time of year, there is just something so comforting about crisp autumn leaves, shades of vibrant oranges and reds on Locust, pumpkin spice chai lattes, apple picking… and, of course, the return of leather season.

When I saw this Fashionista, it was love at first sight. As she was wearing entirely black and white (my two favorite colors), a pair of killer wedges and a black shearling vest, I knew this Fashionista and I were sartorial sisters. By keeping her outfit limited to black and white, this Fashionista presented herself in a more sophisticated manner while giving her outfit an edgy look. Her leather vest, however, was my favorite part of her look. Wrapped in a black shearling and leather vest, this Fashionista knew how to keep warm on the walk to class while looking her best. By pairing her long sleeve black tied shirt with the shearling vest, she introduced additional textures to her look, rendering her outfit simple yet bold.

With designers like BCBGMAXAZRIA, Alexander Wang and even Jason Wu experimenting with leather in their spring/summer 2013 collections, it comes as no surprise that the leather trend is here to stay. To achieve a look similar to this Fashionista’s that is also vegan-friendly, try pairing white jeans with a black vegan leather vest. Nordstroms also offers a faux shearling vest that is pricier but better suited for the cold weather.
