STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: The Color Method

Style Advice of the Week

Any Fashionista will tell you that the right accessories can make or break an outfit. When it comes to accessorizing, there are so many opportunities to go wrong. When considering what accessories to add to your outfit, you must think beyond just what the item is. A tip: use The Color Method. Basing your accessories on a specific color scheme can be an effective and somewhat simple way to pull an outfit together.

Today’s Fashionista used the color method to choose her accessories by incorporating various teal pieces into her outfit, even though she wears no actual teal clothing. In this way she avoids looking too coordinated. She wears a fairly simple outfit: black shorts and red tank. However,  she also adds two current trends: a jean button-up and a classic summer scarf.  The pops of color almost go unnoticed if you don’t look closely. Her bright braided, teal sandals and bracelet contrast nicely with the deep red of her tank top, but aren’t too overpowering because they are somewhat distant from each other in the overall look.

Accessorizing with color is a frugal way to recycle your current wardrobe while remaining dedicated to your inner Fashionista. Add a colorful statement necklace, airy scarf or purse to any of your existing basics for a refreshing new take on your otherwise retired clothing.

For a cool, summery look like this Fashionista, seek out trimmings of bright blues and greenish teals that leave you daydreaming of the ocean.
