WHAT TO WEAR: Midterms

From the Editor, What to Wear

I am pretty sure my calendar is lying to us. There is no way it is already March! It feels like just last week we were at home for winter break, celebrating the holidays and enjoying the pleasantry of homemade meals. How is it already March? It is that realization that March is upon us that panic sets in. No, not the fact that time seems to be speeding by (well, maybe a little of that). But more so the fact that this month brings about college student’s second to least favorite time of the year: midterms!

Let’s be honest here, friends. No one really starts hitting the books hard until midterms. And while stressing over chemistry formulas, 15-page papers about Pangaea and memorizing the works of Renoir is to be expected, one thing you shouldn’t freak out about is your outfit.

In case your brain is too fried to piece together a sentence let alone an outfit, let this Fashionisto’s look serve as a roadmap to the perfect midterm ensemble. Start with a loose sweater or henley like this Fashionisto. A staple item in any Fashionisto’s closet, this is the perfect base to build the rest of your outfit around.

Next, top off the look with a thin coat. The library can go from Arctic chill to South Beach sizzle in what seems like a matter of seconds. A simple silhouette and the proper thickness allows you to throw the coat on and off without skipping a beat.

Another must-have piece for midterms? A scarf! The necessity of this item is two-fold. One: a scarf is another great layering piece for the library or mid-exam. Second: no one likes getting sick, especially come test time. Fend off the flu by staying warm when traveling between your apartment, the library, class and group meetings.

The final piece to the perfect midterm ready look is loose fitting pants. While I know most of you Fashionistos thought I meant sweatpants, let’s keep those at bay as long as possible. This Fashionisto sports some well tailored yet slouchy pants that allow you to study comfortably and fashionably.

Follow this midterm-appropriate ensemble guide and leave the rest of your worrying to your academics.

One Simple Change: Celebrate acing your exam by meeting up with your friends for a drink (and by “drink,” I mean “Shirley Temple”). Ditch your coat at home and grab your leather jacket and you are out the door for a celebratory night out with your crew.
