ACCESSORIES REPORT: Grunge Party

Accessories Report

I’m currently obsessed with all things rock and grungy. A few of my favourite bands are coming to play in my hometown, yet there is one problem: I haven’t even bought my tickets! Fortunately, like a true Fashionista, I planned my outfit in advance: a leather vest, a vintage T-shirt, a pair of black denim shorts and grunge accessories–studs and spikes!

There was no surprise, then, that this Fashionisto stopped me in my tracks, providing me with further inspiration. Many rockers jam topless and wearing some style of pant in a tour bus, but this Fashionisto looked as though he was taking a day off from rock-and-roll. His ensemble read that he simply wanted to wear something casual and comfortable. However, his grunge-inspired accessories represented his rock personality.

A bit more spunk is necessary to complete an outfit, which any rocker would know. His silver bangle, leather bracelets, geometric shaped rings and Ray-Ban sunglasses are edgy and they add credibility: “I’m with the band.” These accessories work best with wardrobe items such as a pair of black denim jeans, a digital-print T-shirt and a pair of boots, which sum up the rocker equation.

Incorporate grunge-inspired accessories to exhibit a rock-and-roll and grunge-inspired look. What’s great about this Fashionisto’s outfit is that he decided to transform the edginess aesthetic, but it in a low-key way. If you want to emphasize your neckline, try a spike choker necklace. You could also try a minimal all-black outfit that features a statement rocker belt. Try leather bracelets and edgier rings, like this Fashionisto. The trick is to follow the idea that less is more.

Spotted:  I can rely on Jean-Paul Gaultier to give me grunge-inspired pieces. Gaultier, a daring Fashionisto himself, presented his spring 2013 collection to legendary ’80s music. Madonna, Gaultier’s muse, was inspired by his earlier collections, sporting black leather strapped cuffs, spike bracelets and edgy rings.
