ACCESSORIES REPORT: Biker Chic

Accessories Report

Bicycles have never been so chic! They are a perfect accessory for a number of reasons. They are a more affordable commute than a car–no expensive petrol necessary. Bicycles keep you fit and healthy. Bicycles are very sustainable, and, lastly, they are so cute, especially the vintage Dutch bikes. But setting the bike aside, bike accessories have never been so important for the rider.

I didn’t need to see a bike to tell me that this Fashionista was an avid bike rider. I noticed her while she waited for her friend, standing against a wall in an admirable edgy outfit. However, it was her accessories that intrigued me. She held a helmet and her backpack, which gave her bike-riding status away.

Her outfit was suitable for both a bike ride and a day on campus: a khaki green shirt, a pair of black denim shorts, Dr. Martens and black shades. It was casual, edgy and cool–all at the same time. It was the brave choice to wear a helmet that impressed me! The black helmet worked effortlessly with her edgy look, but it also served as her protection. I found out that she studied fine arts, which included carrying around a lot of art equipment and school books. Thus, it was a great option to choose this backpack as her bag accessory.

You may not be cycling the streets of Copenhagen, Berlin or Milan, but why not commute with chic accessories? If you are into classics, try this Black Nutcase Helmet, or go for crazy patterns, like this Simi Mini Dot Nutcase Helmet. These Baggu backpacks are made from 100% recyclable cotton duck, and they are big enough to pack all of your school books. My favourite look is the Stripe. Republic Bikes actually offer you the opportunity to design your own–how DIY.

Spotted: Trussardi menswear spring 2013 had models walk the runway “Hampton” style, summer-inspired. Accessories included wheeled bicycles, chic hats, backpacks and even dogs. If you want the added protection, add a helmet! Happy commuting, Fashionistas.
