FASHIONISTA SPOTLIGHT: Melissa Jacobs

Fashionista Spotlight

I spotted this Fashionista completing everyone’s favorite morning ritual, getting her caffeine fix at Starbucks! However, this Fashionista was gearing up for a different sort of day than most of us, she was heading over to compete in a horse show (hence her equestrian themed ensemble). Many times, when one is seriously involved in a certain hobby, passion or job, what we do most has a direct influence on our personal style. Whether it’s being surrounded by clothes from a summer job in retail in a store you don't usually frequent, or befriending many like minded individuals on a sports team, there are many factors to influence your style.

For this Fashionista, she likes to balance equestrian style and her own personal style. We cannot let our hobbies overpower our stylistic voice!

Although I noticed the equestrian theme right off the bat when spotting this Fashionista, it was not directly apparent that she was an actual equestrian due to the small details. In her outfit that lent more to a carefully planned ensemble rather than strictly horse show wear. Her bag, for example, had gold studs on the bottom, matching the belt buckle, both lending a harder edge to the outfit. The button-down and her middle-parted hair  were the more feminine aspects of this perfectly juxtaposed outfit.

Whatever the case, this Fashionista manages to do what she loves while looking fabulous and effortless.

Name: Melissa Jacobs

Major: Undecided

Year: Freshman

CollegeFashionista: Who are your favorite designers?

Melissa Jacobs: I really like rag & bone and Alexander Wang.

CF: How would you describe your personal style?

MJ: Very laid back, I tend to wear a lot of solid colors.

CF: Have being so into the equestrian world influenced your everyday style at all?

MJ: Yes definitely, because of riding horses, I wear a lot of button-downs and belts, but its interesting because I don’t like the riding style boots; I tend to like the slouchy boot look instead.

CF: What is your go-to outfit?

MJ: Boots, black pants, skinny belts and a sweater.

CF: Where do you usually shop?

MJ: I’m from Buffalo, NY so there aren’t many options for me up there, so I tend to do a lot of online shopping. Shopbop is my favorite.

How To: Want to get Melissa’s equestrian themed look? Opt for a button-down and belts with a harder edge, and make your own decision concerning the slouchy vs. riding boot debate!
