FASHIONISTA SPOTLIGHT: Ally Stone

Fashionista Spotlight

Style and trends obviously vary greatly depending on season, but what we sometimes forget is that style change depending on region as well. Whether you have the effortless beach style common on the West Coast or if you are a layering genius thanks to the unreliable Northeast weather, every region has its own flavor. The challenge for many traveling Fashionistas is adapting to a new region, while still having some of their hometown flare. This week’s Fashionista is from Georgia, but spending the summer in the Adirondacks of upstate New York. These very different areas carry different style norms, yet this Fashionista manages to combine the two very well!

Maxi dresses can be tricky for certain Fashionistas to pull off. Whether you are on the short or tall side, you have to find the balance, and the right dress to make it work. This amazon Fashionista does just that! Read on to learn more about this sorority girl’s summer style!

Name: Ally Stone

Major: Science, Technology and Culture

Year: Sophomore

CollegeFashionista: How would you describe your style?

Ally Stone: Quirky/outdoor ready. I love pairing my plethora of skirts and dresses with my black Chaco’s or teal Converse, my outfits are never complete without a funky pair of earrings! I also love different cultures so it wouldn’t be a surprise for me to be wearing a Brazilian bracelet with an Indian inspired blouse.

CF: You are rocking the maxi dress trend, do you find it easy to wear especially at your height?

AS: Yes! Maxi dresses are one of my favorite outfits! They are so versatile as well! You can dress them up with a nice wedge and jewelry to match or down with flip flops. Plus, I don’t need to alter them at all, being 5’11 has its advantages (sometimes).

CF: You go to school in south, but you are spending your summer in the northeast, do you see a difference in styles between the two regions?

AS: Well it is about 95 degrees in Georgia right now. Most people are sporting bikinis and shorts all day. Where as in the Adirondacks today I was able to wear a nice blazer and scarf. I love it up here because, the weather is different from week to week allowing me to expand and mix up my outfits.

CF: Does being in a sorority change your style at all?

AS: I am a little more conscious of my appearance since being in a sorority. I feel I have the same style though, just a little bit more refined and polished.

CF: Where do you typically shop?

AS: I typically shop at Gap, Eddie Bauer,LOFT, T.J. Maxx and Thrift stores. I’m a sucker for a good deal, but I get inspiration for my style from stores such as Anthropologie and Urban Outfitters.

How To: Search for the perfect maxi dress and pair it with some funky earrings for this outdoorsy, bohemian style!
