I’m seeing spots!
No, it isn’t the opening scene to 101 Dalmatians. This season a major trend seems to be polka-dots. I admit, I may have had a slight issue with this budding trend when using the comparison to a Miss Minnie Mouse, who was a big style influence my youth. However, this mindset was altered when I saw the Gucci fall and winter ready-to-wear collections during fashion week. The youthful attitude the polka-dots represented was not something out of my middle school diary, but something playfully sophisticated.
I spotted this Fashionista around the outskirts of London on a day trip this past weekend. When I asked to photograph her, she immediately obliged. After, I told her I loved her polka-dot shirt, and that it would be the perfect thing to write about, as I had been thinking of the trend recently. Immediately, she expressed her infatuation with polka-dots as well, and proceeded to pull out her polka-dot Kate Spade iPhone case! It is very appropriate that her polka-dot accent piece was a Kate Spade case, because at Spade’s spring show, her models rocked polka-dot nails down the runway. I definitely applaud her dedication and cohesion.
If you are looking to add more spots into your wardrobe this season, try these J.Crew trousers or this Urban Outfitters top. If you are of the more adventurous type, there are also some fabulous polka-dotted tights from Forever 21. If you are looking for a more refined way to pull this trend off, try smaller polka-dots or those that are of the same color as the rest of the garment, but a different texture. If you are not looking to be shy, make the spots as big, and as bold as you like!
