My name is Mason Whitehurst and I am a Junior at Radford University, a small college up in the Appalachian mountains. I will be in charge of the Tuesday posts, LET’S HEAR IT FOR THE BOYS. This is my first semester with CollegeFashionista and I am excited to expand on the outfits I see fellow Fashionistos rocking. With a major in business marketing and a minor in fashion design, I plan on making a name for myself in the fashion industry after I graduate.
After being voted “Best Dressed” my senior year of high school, I realized that fashion is sort of a hobby for me. I have always liked to dress nice, but never thought of it as a career choice. Now that I am older and can afford to buy my own clothes, fashion is continuously on my mind. Nothing can match the feeling you get when someone compliments your outfit. Being from Virginia Beach, I’ve always had a beach flare to my style, but recently I’ve been trying to blend some vintage or thrifted clothes with some streetwear all into something that I can’t really put a label on. Living at the beach is awesome, hence why my dream job would be in California. Then again, New York has been attracting me more and more ever since I got interested with fashion. Something about the fast pace and constant movement draws me in. It’d be awesome to whip through traffic on my bike just to get to work and toil with fashion all day.
When I’m home and away from school, I intern at Commonwealth. Commonwealth is a specialty boutique that has worked closely with musicians N*E*R*D, The Clipse, Kenna and DJ A-Trak to help promote the different aspects of the street culture. It’s nice to go in and talk fashion with peers while learning the ropes to starting my own company.
