Spring Break is one week away, yet we’re still walking to our 8 a.m. classes in 20-degree weather. Layering up is our only option until the cold decides to leave. New fall/winter gear came out recently–fall 2013 collections–which gave Fashionistos a multitude of possible outfit combinations to stay warm. I was lucky enough to meet up with this Fashionisto in his spare time and take some pictures of his unique personal style.
We all know that black absorbs the most sunlight, so let’s utilize this knowledge and apply it to our wardrobe, like this Fashionisto did. Not only did he incorporate black for warmth, but his leather jacket gave him a grunge-inspired look. If you noticed like I had, many designers integrated an element of grunge into their fall 2013 collections. Take a look at Calvin Klein, Givenchy and Rick Owens’s fall 2013 collections that featured dark looks. Bottega Veneta even had a black leather suit in his collection! This Fashionisto’s personal style seemed ahead of the curve. I guess that is the consequence of being a fashion design student at Radford.
The leather jacket paired with his black skinny jeans complemented his outfit’s tattered look. His jeans slimmed down his legs, which made the rest of his outfit look baggier. I’ve noticed designers doing this with their collections, too. The most notable piece in this Fashionisto’s outfit, though, was his choice of footwear. A pair of Jeffrey Campbell loafers was the perfect shoe to fit this Fashionisto’s style. Instead of a pair of black loafers, this Fashionisto decided on a bright red pair. He made me do a double-take when I first saw his shoes. The spike detail was the icing on this Fashionisto’s grunge-cake.
Hint: Check out a couple of your local thrift shops, if you don’t want to drop a bunch of money on expensive designer apparel. I will find it hard to believe that you don’t stumble upon a vintage leather jacket. It might be more difficult to find a pair of black skinny jeans that fit, or even harder to find a pair of studded loafers, but you most likely can find an item that will suffice. Honestly, most loafers will look great with this look. Black skinny jeans should already be a part of a Fashionisto’s wardrobe, yet if you want this look and you do not have a pair, spend your money to get a nice pair of black skinny jeans. You’re going to wear them more frequently than you think.
